From School

Today was the last day of school for my daughters.  As of noon this afternoon, school is out for three months.

Youngest has summer school for nineteen days, so that’s nineteen days that I’m guaranteed not to hear, “I’m bore-rr-da”.  Imagine a drippy noodle walk accompanying such a whiny complaint.

The last seven years of summer break have been exquisite torture.  Husband used to work nights, so each day would be a battle between wanting to let the kids be loud and have fun, while still allowing Husband to get a decent days sleep.  Of course the kiddos couldn’t go outside for fear of their skin melting off in this crazy desert heat, so it was inside only quiet time.  I did fill our days with trips to the library, zoo and water parks.  However once I became too sick to travel, all those activities ended.  I then restricted us to playing board games, dance-dance revolution extreme and art projects.  Each are fun, yet it’s hard to be quiet when doing any of them.

Luckily for us, Husband is working during the day now (hooray).  The kids can be loud.  They can play without the stress about sound levels making my eye twitch.  I already know this summer will be delightfully different from the predecessors.

Tonight I’m letting the kids stay up as late as they can.  No school means sleeping in!  To celebrate the first day of summer, we went to the library and selected several books.  We’re going to read one book for every movie we watch.  We’re a big family of book nerds.  Hah!

We also rented “Mall Cop”.  I thought it had its funny moments, but the kids thought it was grand –  hilarious the whole way through.  I love listening to them laugh sincerely at a movie.  It’s unbelievably adorable.

After the movie we played with Fun Foil Art (As Seen on TV!).  It’s a set of puffy stickers that have different cut sections on the face of the sticker.  Each section of the design pulls away independently to reveal a sticky portion of the puffy sticker.  After the reveal, a foil square is pressed onto the sticky area.  Gently peel back the foil and voila!  A fantastic sparkle sticker.  Very good value and tons of fun.  The other bonus is super easy clean up that the kids don’t mind doing.

I read an announcement that Tori is going to be performing on The Tonight Show on the 22nd.  I can’t wait to see it.  June 1st she’ll be on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.  I’m eager to watch both.

Note for myself: Still flaring.  Started rice only today.
